Housing Benefit is a national benefit to help people on low incomes pay their rent. It is funded by Central Government but administered locally by us.
Housing Benefit can't be paid for other charges that may be included in your rent such as heating, hot water, energy or food. The amount you can receive depends on your income and circumstances.
If you rent privately the amount you receive will also depend on the Local Housing Allowance (LHA). For more information on Housing Benefit and LHA please see the Housing Benefit pages on the GOV website.
To find out if you qualify for this benefit and others that are administered by other public authorities please use the online Benefits Calculators to estimate your entitlement.
