Energy Deal - the collective switching campaign

During these difficult and challenging times it’s even more important to save money on your energy bill.

Kent Energy Deal has been in operation since collective energy switching began in the UK in 2013.  Kent Energy Deal is a partnership between Kent Councils and iChoosr to help residents save money on their energy bills by using combined buying power to access highly competitive tariffs.  Dartford Borough Council along with Dover, Gravesham, Tonbridge & Malling and Tunbridge Wells are the partner Councils that run the scheme, however online registration is open to any resident no matter what District/Borough they live in.

Participation is completely free with no obligation to switch.  Kent Energy Deal hold 3 auction rounds a year – Autumn, Winter and Spring (auctions October, February and May). Register for the auction round that most closely aligns to the end of your current fixed tariff.  If your current fixed tariff is not due to expire in the next few months, register and take part in one of the forthcoming rounds.

  • The auction takes place on 15 February 2022
  • Personal energy offers will be sent out from 28 February 2022

How to take part

Registration requires details of energy consumption (on energy bill/annual energy statement - preferably in kWhs), name of current supplier and current tariff.

You don't have to live in one of our districts to take part.

Due to restrictions on the scheme the council is not allowed to send out reminders to residents who have switched through the scheme in the past two years.  Therefore, please keep a note of your current tariff expiry date and register for the auction that coincides with that date.

Don’t have access to an email address?

People without an email address can register via a relative or friend’s email address (maximum of five households per email address) or alternatively contact Environmental Promotions Officer on 01322 343056.


Four things you should do

  • Grab your bill and register yourself - it's free, easy and without obligation
  • Tell your neighbours about the scheme
  • Help your relatives if they are not used to registering their details online. (you can register on their behalf)
  • Help people without internet access to register with you online, or leave your contact details on 01322 343056 during registration periods for assistance

Registration is free and there is no obligation to accept the winning offer.

The Council currently offers a number of Discount and Energy Grant Schemes to provide the opportunity to insulation homes to make them more energy efficient and help save money of energy bills. Details can be found on the Warm Home Scheme page:

Important information about the Autumn auction held on 12 October 2021

Due to unprecedented market forces, auction bids were as much as £1,000 above the price cap (a reflection of where open market 12 month fixed tariffs currently are).  It is widely believed that the price cap will be increased by Ofgem in April and all Standard Variable Tariffs are likely to track the price cap however, it is unlikely to go as high as open market tariffs being offered now.

Therefore, personal energy offers will not be sent out to residents for the Autumn auction, as it would not make economic sense to switch to a fixed tariff at this time.

Online registrants will receive an email explaining the situation, and the opportunity to opt in to the next auction.

Offline registrants will receive a letter with an explanation of the extraordinary circumstances surrounding this auction and will be automatically enrolled in the February 2022 auction.  Residents can call 0800 048 8285 if they do not want to take part in the next auction round.
