Prescribed Processes
These are industrial or commercial activities that result in emissions to air, land or water of substances that are prescribed by legislation.
According to the nature of emissions and the size of the process, operators of industrial processes may be required to obtain an authorisation from the Council.
If the processes include emissions to water and or land, or if the processes are above a certain size, the Environment Agency is the authorising authority.
Processes falling within the control of the Environment Agency are known as Part A Processes. If the emissions are only to air, and the process is of a limited size, Dartford Borough Council is the authorising authority. Processes falling within the control of Dartford Borough Council are known as Part B Processes.
Each process is required to control emissions by way of conditions stipulated within the authorisation. The extent of emissions is controlled by Government guidance.
Council officers visit the processes to determine if the conditions have been complied with.
