Introduction

There are often local organisations that require extra assistance with final bits of funding to allow their project to take fruition.  The following information and case study provides background to the Dartford Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding, and if it can help provide this support.

The Council’s Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), a financial charge on development, came into effect in 2014.  Since then a proportion (15%) of the CIL receipts collected from development within the unparished part of the Borough has been retained to support improvements to facilities or services run by the community in these areas. The purpose of projects should relate to local/social ‘infrastructure’ that addresses the demands arising from new that development in the locality.  The fund looks for achievable projects that would successfully complete:

  • Walking/Cycling routes and facilities
  • Public transport/Highway upgrades
  • Riverside enhancement/Flood risk management
  • Local education/Health/Care services
  • Sports or cultural facilities
  • Neighbourhood/Community premises
  • Parks, play areas, allotments and open green spaces

CIL funding must be for the provision, improvement, replacement or maintenance of infrastructure.
