Cemeteries

The Bereavement Services of Dartford Borough Council ensure that a caring, supportive and sensitive service is provided to those who are experiencing the loss of a loved one.

There are four cemeteries currently in use for burials in Dartford.

Watling Street Burial Ground

1st April - 1st October: 8am - 7pm

October - 31st March: 8am - 4pm

Vehicle access gates close at 4pm all year round.

The Cemetery is maintained to a high standard with a regular mowing regime, newly planted ornamental rose beds and colourful bedding schemes.

Stone Cemetery

1st April - 1st October: 8am - 7pm

October - 31st March: 8am - 4pm

The cemetery is sited in a quiet location and occupies just under 5 acres in a traditional cemetery layout. It is easy to access and parking spaces are available at the front.

Red brick chapels are situated at either side of the main entrance, one of which is currently used for services.

Swanscombe Cemetery

1st April - 1st October: 8am - 7pm

October - 31st March: 8am - 4pm

Entrance at the Swanscombe Street end is via a traditional Lychgate opposite the historical St Peter and St Paul's Church.

A well maintained 4.5 acre site which features an avenue of mature trees, shrubs and rose beds with an informal layout. Within the cemetery is a small but charming chapel which was built in 1905.

East Hill Cemetery

1st April - 1st October: 8am - 7pm

October - 31st March: 8am - 4pm

It is no longer possible to purchase a new grave at East Hill Cemetery but interments in existing private graves are permitted.

Cemetery chapels

Watling Street cemetery chapel has a seating capacity of 55

Stone cemetery chapel has a seating capacity of 50

Watling Street Garden of Remembrance 

In October 2006 the Watling Street Garden of Remembrance was opened by the Mayor of Dartford.

Sanctum 2000 Columbaria

The Sanctum 2000 Columbaria are made from polished granite.

The integral vault can accept two caskets of cremated remains and includes an engraved granite fascia tablet with space for a full inscription and additional motif or photo plaque.

Each Columbarium comes with a floral tribute vase for fresh flowers and is set out in single rows with space between each memorial.

Memorial Pergola

The memorial pergolas are constructed from pressure treated timber for longevity and provide height and structure to the garden.

They are sited on the three main entrances and have a variety of climbing shrubs.

Cast bronze memorial plaques with space for full inscription can be placed on the upright timbers.

Floral tribute vases for fresh flowers will also be available.

Balmoral Memorial Seats

Memorial seats placed around the perimeter are made from Iroko Teak and a number of cast bronze memorial plaques can be placed on the back rail with the addition of a floral tribute vase and holder for fresh flowers.

Shrub borders / Trees

A selection of ornamental trees and shrubs will be planted around both the perimeter and inside border of the path providing an element of seclusion. The variety of planting will add colour, and interest all year round.

Eltham Crematorium

There are currently no crematorium facilities in Dartford, but we have links with Eltham Crematorium.
