Why weight

Why Weight is a FREE 12 week adult weight management course run by qualified professionals to help you lose weight.

The programme focuses on helping people to understand the relationship between food, exercise and weight control. Each weekly session focuses on a particular subject, such as food labels, portion sizes and eating out as well as a weekly weigh-in. At the end of each session there is the chance to take part in a 30 minute gentle exercise class specifically for Why Weight Plan members only. Programmes run throughout the year and start up in January, April and September.

The next Why Weight courses take place at the following venues:

  • Swanscombe and Greenhithe Town Council Community Hall, The Grove
    Thursdays, 6.45pm-8.30pm
  • St Edmunds Church Living Well, St Edmunds Rd, Temple Hill, Dartford
    Tuesdays, 12.30pm-2.30pm

Fall prevention sessions

These sociable and fun classes are based on simple, progressive exercises especially adapted for older people (aged 60+). The combination of sitting and standing exercises will help to keep you mobile, flexible and strong, while improving your balance and helping you avoid falls.

Health matters lifestyle programme

Health Matters is a specialised 12-week programme offering support, care and encouragement for people with a wide range of medical conditions. The programme aims to help with fitness and confidence through activities such as specialised classes in the pool and at the gym. Health Matters is run by fully qualified specialist Cardiac and GP Rehabilitation Instructors.

All referrals onto the Health Matters Referral programme will benefit from reduced membership fees. To find out if you qualify please contact GP Referral Coordinator on 01322 421166.
