Waste Presentation Rules

Residents can either present their household waste in bins or sacks.

Each domestic property is allowed one green 180 litre wheeled bin for refuse and one grey 240 litre wheeled bin for recycling. All refuse must be contained within the green bin, side waste will not be taken. A bigger green refuse bin may be available for larger households. Extra recycling can be placed alongside a grey bin in clear sacks. Residents who opt in to the Council’s garden waste collection service may pay for more than one brown bin. The Council no longer provides black boxes for glass as glass should now be put in grey bins along with other recycling.

Under Section 46 of The Environmental Protection Act (1990), Dartford Borough Council can require residents to present their household waste in accordance with the following requirements:

Your bins or sacks must be presented at the front boundary of your property closest to the road, no earlier than the evening prior to the scheduled collection day and by 6am on the day of collection.

You must return your bin to your property by midday on the day after collection. For example, if your collection day is Wednesday, you must put your bin back on your property by midday on Thursday.

You must not store your bin on the street. It should be on your property when it is not out for collection.

Your household waste remains the responsibility of the resident until it is collected.
