Have your say - Spital Street

We’d like to hear from you about our plans for improving Spital Street.

The aim of the works is to create a safer, more attractive environment that's easier for people walking through the town centre and visiting businesses; as well as improving cycle routes in and out of the town. We’re intending to use the same high standard of hard-wearing surface materials and street furniture which has been used in Market Street, High Street, Lowfield Street and its junction with Instone Road, along with the works that are almost complete at West Hill.

Our proposals include:

  • Widened footways
  • Changes to the Kent Road junction with Spital Street to allow pedestrians to cross and require vehicles to slow
  • New contraflow cycleway on the eastern section of the street, separated from pedestrians to improve safety
  • New LED street lighting providing more consistent lighting and improving safety
  • New seating, tree planting and cycle stands
  • Creation of defined parking bays; amendments to existing parking controls
