Temporary tarmac

A lot of work has gone into improving Dartford town centre in recent years.

One of the most obvious changes is the new granite paving throughout the area. In some places, the street has been dug up following work by utility companies, this essential work is carried out to maintain things like water mains, electricity lines etc.

We have an agreement with the utility contractors to store and re-use the granite paving taken up and to put it back once works are complete. In order to ensure the pavement is relayed to a high standard, the Council uses its own contractors with the cost fully reimbursed by the utility contractor. We aim to put the granite paving back as quickly as possible, but there can be delays - including holding off replacing the paving if more utility work is planned for the same patch.

If you see tarmac around the town centre, please rest assured that it will be replacd with the surrounding granite paving once the work has been arranged.
